Customization of Plan Design
Blue Shield can modify the benefits and coverage levels of our
standard health plans and optional benefits to meet the specific
needs of certain large employer groups. We can also customize
marketing and other employee educational materials.
- Flexible Spending Accounts
Blue Shield administers flexible spending accounts that allow
group health plan members to designate pre-tax earnings for out-of-pocket
health and dependent care expenses. These pre-tax contributions
are made through automatic payroll deduction. As health and dependent
care expenses are incurred, employees are reimbursed from their
accounts.
- Alternative Funding Arrangement
Companies that prefer to fund their own risk for health coverage
can contract with Blue Shield for risk management services. Under
these alternative funding agreements, Blue Shield performs claims
administration services, administers cost containment programs
and provides managed care services for the employer.
- Health Data Reporting
Managing benefits and costs for large organizations requires
clear, accurate data. Blue Shield offers quarterly and annual
health data reports to show employers exactly how their dollars
are spent. Our reporting capabilities also meet standards set
by the Health Plan Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS).
- CobraServ
CobraServ, the nation's oldest and largest COBRA administrative
and billing service, automatically comes with all underwritten
Blue Shield group plans at no charge to employers with
20 or more employees. It is one of the easiest, safest and least
expensive ways possible to comply with the law.
- Account Management
Blue Shield representatives in local service offices offer
employers ongoing administrative support, including assistance
with open enrollment and employee benefit meetings, problem resolution
and other account management services.
